Temporary Graduate Subclass 485
The Temporary Graduate, Subclass 485, Visa encompasses the Graduate Work steam and the Post-Study Work stream.
Graduate Work Stream
The Graduate Workstream of the Temporary Graduate, Subclass 485, Visa is for recent graduates of educational institutions in Australia who have qualifications and skills that are relevant to particular occupations on the skilled occupation list.
You may be eligible for the Temporary Graduate, Subclass 485, Visa if, for example, you hold a current student visa, you held a student visa in the past 6 months before applying for a Subclass 485 visa and you now hold a Bridging Visa A or Bridging Visa B granted because of making a valid visa application, or you held a student visa in the past 6 months before applying for s Subclass 485 visa and you now hold a substantive visa.
In the 6 months before applying for the Subclass 485 visa, you must have met the Australian study requirement. To meet the Australian study requirement, you have to show, amongst other things, that you successfully completed all the requirements of a CRICOS registered course or program lasting at least two academic years (or 92 weeks), and you were physically present in Australia for not less than 16 calendar months in completing those studies.
For the Graduate Workstream, the course or program that you completed must have resulted in the conferral of a degree, diploma or trade qualification.
In terms of your qualifications and skills, you should have an occupation that is listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List, and you need a degree, diploma or trade qualification that is closely related to that occupation. You should also be assessed by skills assessing authority in order to have your qualifications and skills accredited or deemed suitable for the nominated occupation.
Unless you hold a valid passport from the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand or the Republic of Ireland, you will need to show that you have the following level of English language proficiency:
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – overall score of at least 6.0, with a minimum score of 5.0 in each of the four test components.
- Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT) – total score of not less than 64, and at least 14 for speaking, 4 for reading, 4 for listening, and 14 for writing.
- Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) – overall score of not less than 50, with a minimum score of 36 in each of the four test components.
- Occupational English Test (OET) – at least B in each of the four test components.
- Cambridge C1 Advanced Test – overall score of not less than 169, with a minimum score of at least 154 in each of the four test components.
Further criteria include meeting health and character requirements. You may be ineligible for this visa if you had a visa application refused or a visa cancelled while in Australia.
If you qualify under the Graduate Work stream you may be granted a Temporary Graduate, Subclass 485, Visa with a stay period in Australia of up to 18 months. The visa would allow you to work in Australia and you could bring members of your family to Australia.
Post-study Work Stream
The Post-study Workstream of the Temporary Graduate, Subclass 485, Visa is for international students with a recent degree or eligible qualification from an educational institution in Australia.
You may be eligible for the Temporary Graduate, Subclass 485, Visa if, for example, you hold a current student visa, you held a student visa in the past 6 months before applying for a Subclass 485 visa and you now hold a Bridging Visa A or Bridging Visa B granted because of making a valid visa application, or you held a student visa in the past 6 months before applying for s Subclass 485 visa and you now hold a substantive visa.
